On my Smartcode 955, The Key Cannot Be Removed When Unlocked.
This is a feature to ensure door is always locked and the key is removed only in the locked position (vertical).

Read MoreTo remove a cylinder for resetting: Remove screws from interior turnpiece assembly and remove interior and exterior assembly from door. Remove cylinder housing mechanism from exterior assembly. Important: Do not remove screws or cover from the cylinder housing mechanism. Remove the silver clip from the cylinder that you plan to reset. Hint: Wedge a flat head screwdriver under the arch of the clip and continue to work it off until removed. With cover rotated to the keyway of the cylinder you plan to remove, push cylinder out through front of housing. Follow instructions that came with your reset cradle to reset the cylinder or take cylinder to locksmith for resetting.

Rotate the short torque blade of the control cylinder so that it aligns with the opening in the top gear. Insert housing mechanism into the cylinder guard and cover. Place exterior and interior assemblies back on door
