BLACK & DECKER® ELECTRONIC MOTORIZED LOCKS DEMONSTRATE THE ULTIMATE IN RESIDENTIAL SECURITY AT ISC WEST 2009

Company Showcases Integrated Remote Access Control Solutions Backed by SmartKey™ Technology at International Security Conference

LAS VEGAS (April 1, 2009) – Black & Decker®, the residential security hardware industry’s innovation leader, today is showcasing the ultimate in remote wireless access control solutions at the International Security Conference and Exposition (ISC West) in Las Vegas. Slated for launch later this year, these one-of-a-kind motorized locks were developed for interoperability with home automation and security systems, and deliver a variety of access control options for the utmost in home security. Key product features, especially for homeowners with security or automation systems already in place, include e-mail and text door lock status notifications, automatic security system arming and disarming, and true remote locking and unlocking. Black & Decker’s ground-breaking technologies will be on display at ISC West, April 1-3 in the Black & Decker booth No. 2086.

"Just two weeks ago, US Attorney General Eric Holder commented at the National League of Cities Conference that 'economic troubles invariably lead to a demonstrable uptick in property crime,' and that ‘two out of three urban police departments are reporting budget cuts or hiring freezes,'" said Jason Williams, senior product manager, Black & Decker Hardware and Home Improvement. "Black & Decker's new technology provides homeowners with the security and peace of mind they need, while also advancing the way we live and manage our busy lives."

Lock the Door From Virtually Anywhere

Black & Decker's unique motorized deadbolt throws the bolt electronically and provides the ability to lock or unlock doors via remote control, Web-enabled mobile phone, security system touch panel and/or a secure Internet connection. This approach is an advancement over other competitive offerings that still require a person to manually turn the bolt to lock or unlock the door.

"It's not truly remote access unless you can lock or unlock your door without touching it – and that’s what differentiates our solutions in today's marketplace," said Dave Albert, vice president, Marketing, Baldwin. "We become so entrenched in our routines that many of us often find ourselves traveling down the highway in the mornings wondering - did I lock the door? With Black & Decker's latest innovations homeowners can simply use their Webenabled mobile phone to secure their home from virtually anywhere in the world!"

Customized Security and Convenience

Black & Decker's highly-anticipated residential access control solutions feature two way functionality where the door lock can directly control the home security and automation systems, and vice versa. Homeowners use customizable codes that can arm the home security system when the door is locked and disarm the system when the door is unlocked. Likewise, home automation systems can be configured to automatically set home lighting, music and climate controls based on the code used to unlock the door. Further enhancing user-friendliness, these products eliminate the need for hard wiring as they operate on four AA batteries and fit all standard door preps. Establishing the door lock as a user interface dramatically increases the security and convenience provided to the homeowner, while making the customization possibilities virtually limitless.

Revolutionary SmartKey™ Technology Built-In

Wireless and remote access-enabled Black & Decker locks feature SmartKey technology with BumpGuard™ protection as the key back-up. First introduced in 2007, SmartKey is the only widely available lock on the market that allows homeowners to quickly and easily re-key their lock(s) themselves without removal from the door.
