New Patented Side-Locking Bar Technology, Biometrics and Touchpad Innovation Create a New Security and Access Control Standard
ORLANDO, Fla. – February 13, 2008 – Kwikset®, the leader in innovative residential security, kicked off the 2008 International Builders’ Show (IBS) by introducing its new SmartSeries™ family of high-quality, ANSI-graded, bump-resistant deadbolts. This pioneering new platform of innovative security products features the newly launched SmartKey™ technology with BumpGuard™ protection, the innovative SmartScan™ biometric deadbolt first previewed at IBS 2007, and a sneak peek of the next-generation of SmartCode™ keyless entry systems. The entire line will be on display at the Kwikset Booth, No. W921 in the West Hall of the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Fla. from Wednesday, Feb. 13 until Saturday, Feb. 16.

SmartKey by Kwikset
The flagship product of the SmartSeries family, the SmartKey lock design is a new and innovative technology that provides consumers with the ability to re-key locks quickly and easily for improved access control and one key convenience. By using the included SmartKey Learn Tool and the functioning key, consumers can re-key a lock in less than 30 seconds, without having to remove the lock from the door. Based upon Kwikset’s newly patented SmartKey side-locking bar system, SmartKey deadbolts feature ANSI Grade 1 certification and have passed the most stringent lock picking standard, UL 437, par. 11.6. This affordable lock eliminates the typical sheer line, pins and tumbler mechanisms in its design, removing the most vulnerable points in residential locks. Additionally, all SmartSeries products feature improved drill resistance and integrated BumpGuard protection, offering consumers an affordable solution to the growing concern of lock-bumping intrusions.
SmartScan by Kwikset
Returning to this year’s IBS is the SmartScan biometric deadbolt, a state-of-theart home access system that allows consumers to let their fingers be their keys. SmartScan is more than a fingerprint reader; it records sub-dermal fingerprint data and converts it into a mathematical formula that is unique to the user, cannot be duplicated and is not affected by cuts, bruises or blemishes. With the ability to store up to 50 unique users, SmartScan has the memory to store fingerprint data for the family, household help, extended relatives and trusted neighbors. SmartScan provides consumers with three levels of discreet access: continuous access, enabling complete all-hours access for home owners and family members; temporary access, allowing the administrator to allow access on specific days only; and restricted access, providing discreet day and time access control for domestic services, child care or any other type of regularly scheduled entry the homeowner may need. And because it’s powered internally via batteries, the SmartScan biometric deadbolt does not require complicated wiring to install, and will still function in the event of an electrical outage.
Next-Generation of SmartCode by Kwikset
The result of more than 10 years of designing and testing keyless entry systems, the next-generation SmartCode will feature a sleeker, cleaner look and brightly lit keypad to aid in accessing the home in the evenings. The next-generation SmartCode lets home and property owners create two unique access codes, ranging from four to eight digits. SmartCode can easily be engaged via the one-touch locking function, eliminating the need to fumble with keys. And like SmartScan, SmartCode does not require complicated wiring to install, relying on an innovative battery-powered design.
