New SmartKey™ Features Fast Re-Key Technology for Increased Jobsite Security and Efficiency
ORLANDO, Fla. – February 13, 2008 – Kwikset®, the leader in innovative residential security, today unveiled its new SmartKey™locking technology to the builder community at the 2008 International Builder’s Show held in Orlando, Fla. This groundbreaking lock technology provides contractors, remodelers and building managers the ability to re-key locks in less than 30 seconds, eliminating the hassle and cost of replacing locks. With SmartKey, in three simple steps, a potentially compromised or outdated key can be replaced with a new and secure key without removing the lock from the door. SmartKey increases job site security by removing the complexity of a traditional pin and tumbler lock, and increases job site efficiency with fewer lock-related callbacks and production delays for the new construction market.
“Worksite security is one area where contractors cannot afford to cut corners, and having to re-key or replace locks every time a site hits a new phase of construction certainly adds up,” said Eric Lundquist, director, Brand Marketing, Kwikset. “We developed SmartKey to provide builders increased flexibility in job site control, and also increase project efficiency by saving valuable time and money, while improving job site security. SmartKey simply removes the complexity, cost and frustration associated with re-keying locks.”
One Solution Offering Security and Convenience
SmartKey gives builders, remodelers and new homeowners the convenience, flexibility and security of re-keying a lock an infinite number of times. By using SmartKey’s unique ability to rotate keys, builders can ensure installed assets, building materials and job site resources do not fall victim to theft due to potentially compromised keys. And because the re-keying process can be done with the lock inplace, SmartKey saves builders time and money by eliminating the need for locks to be re-pinned the traditional way, or installing entirely new locks at each phase of the project development.
SmartKey’s innovative re-key technology stems from its newly patented sidelocking bar system. Because SmartKey eliminates the typical sheer line, pins and tumbler mechanisms found in traditional lock designs, this locking technology allows industry professionals job site access control. By using the included proprietary SmartKey Learn Tool and the existing functioning key, builders can safely change or swap out keys without fear of losing control of property access. SmartKey’s re-keying requirement of having both the functioning key and the Learn Tool ensures a high level of security.
Delivering a high level of protection, SmartKey 980 deadbolts feature the Builders’ Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) ANSI Grade 1 rating, improved drilling attack resistance, and have passed the most stringent lock picking standard, UL 437, par. 11.6. In addition, SmartKey offers BumpGuard™ technology to protect against lock-bumping attacks. Kwikset SmartKey offers a wide array of the latest styles and finishes in handlesets, levers, knobs and deadbolts to match any décor. The additional security provided by SmartKey, coupled with its unique re-key technology, can be used as a significant upgrade feature when selling new homes.
