Obsidian Electronic Lock from Kwikset is Available for Purchase Starting Today

LAS VEGAS (January 9, 2018) — he Kwikset brand of Spectrum Brands, Inc. – Hardware & Home Improvement Division closed out 2017 with several big announcements and integrations with Amazon. The brand will be displaying a selection of Kwikset products designed exclusively for Amazon Alexa and Amazon Key customers at the Kwikset booth, located within the Smart Home Marketplace, CES Tech West at the Sands (#41018).  

Offering convenience through voice control

Interaction with devices via voice control is enabling adoption of smart home products as fifty-three percent of smart speaker owners also have smart home devices (Parks Associates, Enabling Voice in the Smart Home, 2017).

Leading smart lock manufacturer Kwikset announced a new Alexa skill for its Kevo Touch-to-Open™ smart locks and smart lock conversion kits that enables voice control through Alexa-enabled devices. With the Kevo Smart Home Skill, homeowners can ask Alexa if the door is locked, and lock the door if it’s not. Homeowners can also check the status of the lock from within the Alexa app. This skill is available for consumers with compatible Alexa-enabled devices and the Kevo Plus service upgrade from Kwikset.

Kevo smart lock solutions and service upgrades are available online and at select retailers nationwide.

Securing your online purchases, granting home access

Kwikset also teamed up with Amazon to offer renters and homeowners two smart lock solutions to choose from when purchasing an Amazon Key In-Home Kit.

Amazon Key is a new service from Amazon that allows Prime members in 37 cities and surrounding areas across the U.S. to receive in-home delivery and grant secure home access for guests using the Amazon Cloud Cam and a compatible smart lock.

Kwikset redesigned two of its smart lock solutions – Kwikset SmartCode 914, a touchpad smart lock, and Kwikset Convert, a smart lock conversion kit – to work exclusively with the Amazon Key In-Home Kit.

In the coming months, Amazon will expand the Amazon Key service to allow homeowners to grant unattended access to professional service providers from Amazon Home Services.

The Amazon Key-compatible versions of SmartCode 914 and Kwikset Convert are available for purchase now in a variety of finishes at Amazon.com.

Building a smarter home, centered around a new smart speaker

Thirty-five percent of U.S. broadband households said using a smart speaker to control other smart home or entertainment devices is very appealing (Parks Associates, 360 View Update: Smart Home: Quest for Compelling Use Cases, 2017), and with the rise of digital assistants, Amazon Echo Plus has potential to be a must-have device for first-time smart home customers.

In 2017, Kwikset released three of its popular smart locks which are compatible with the new Amazon Echo Plus.
